PLN EPI Strengthens Zero Waste Culture Through Waste Sorting and Textile Recycling

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI) is continuing to reinforce its commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles through integrated waste management in its workplace. In collaboration with Waste4Change and Eco Touch, PLN EPI has been consistently applying waste sorting at source as part of efforts to reduce the volume of waste ending up at final processing sites (TPA).

From January to May 2026, PLN EPI successfully managed 460 kilograms of sorted waste, comprising 69 kilograms of organic waste, 390.9 kilograms of inorganic waste, and 226 kilograms of residual waste. All sorted waste is processed according to its characteristics, from composting and recycling into new raw materials to responsible residual waste handling, minimizing the burden on landfills.

Beyond daily waste management, PLN EPI also initiated a used clothing collection drive in collaboration with Eco Touch, as part of efforts to extend the lifecycle of textile products and reduce fashion waste. By May 2026, PLN EPI had cumulatively collected 182.95 kilograms of used clothing for recycling.

PLN EPI Corporate Secretary Mamit Setiawan said waste management is not merely an operational activity but part of a sustainability culture the company is continuously building.

“Sustainability starts with daily habits. Through waste sorting at source, we want to build awareness among all PLN EPI employees that every individual has a role to play in reducing environmental impact. Small steps taken consistently will deliver a big impact for sustainability,” Mamit said.

He added that collaboration with Waste4Change forms part of the company’s efforts to deliver a more measurable, transparent, and responsible waste management system, allowing the company to periodically monitor waste reduction achievements as part of ESG implementation.

Beyond providing waste sorting facilities, PLN EPI also regularly educates employees on the importance of waste reduction, reuse, and recycling, making waste management part of the company’s work culture.

The program aligns with PLN EPI’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 13 on Climate Action, and national waste reduction targets.

Going forward, PLN EPI will continue expanding its sustainability initiatives, from employee education on responsible waste management to waste reduction programs and increased employee participation in environmental conservation activities, as part of the company’s commitment to increasingly environmentally responsible operations while supporting Indonesia’s sustainable energy transition.
