Enviro News Asia, Yogyakarta – Indonesia’s Ministry of Forestry has launched the implementation of the National Forest Inventory (IHN) 2.0, a modern, integrated, and technology-driven forest inventory system designed to strengthen data-based forest governance and support sustainable forest management nationwide.
The implementation of IHN 2.0 forms part of the Ministry’s broader forestry transformation agenda aligned with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita vision of establishing an effective, transparent, and evidence-based government. The initiative also reflects Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni’s directive to ensure that forestry policies and management are supported by accurate, transparent, and accountable data.
IHN 2.0 integrates digital technologies, enhanced field data collection, spatial information systems, and comprehensive quality assurance and quality control mechanisms. The upgraded system is expected to provide credible and adaptive forestry data as the foundation for policy formulation, planning, monitoring, and evaluation of Indonesia’s forestry sector.
To support nationwide implementation, the Directorate of Forest Resource Inventory and Monitoring organized a Technical Guidance Program on Quality Assurance and Quality Control for IHN 2.0 in Yogyakarta. The program aims to standardize understanding of the new inventory methodology, strengthen technical competencies, and improve coordination among forestry units to ensure consistent and reliable forest inventory data across Indonesia.
Director General of Forestry Planning, Ade Tri Ajikusumah, emphasized that accurate, up-to-date, consistent, and accountable forest inventory data are fundamental to Indonesia’s forestry governance.
“The success of IHN 2.0 depends not only on sound methodology but also on the quality of the human resources implementing it. Administrative and supervisory officials must serve as leaders, quality controllers, and agents of change to ensure consistent application of national standards throughout the implementation process,” he said.
The Ministry highlighted the achievements of the previous inventory program as a strong foundation for IHN 2.0. In 2025, the Ministry exceeded its target by completing measurements in 375 forest inventory clusters, surpassing the planned 365 clusters and achieving 102 percent of the annual target.
As part of its digital transformation, the Ministry has also developed the National Forest Inventory Information System (SI-INTAN), an integrated platform for managing, monitoring, and analyzing national forest inventory data. SI-INTAN consolidates data from IHN 2.0, the previous IHN 1.0 system, and the National Mangrove Forest Inventory, enabling faster, more comprehensive, and more reliable access to forestry information for policymakers and stakeholders.
Through the implementation of IHN 2.0 and SI-INTAN, the Ministry of Forestry aims to strengthen evidence-based decision-making, improve forest resource management, and reinforce Indonesia’s commitment to sustainable forestry and environmental governance. (*)
