Enviro News Asia, Subang — Bank BJB carried out an environmental conservation initiative as part of its commitment to sustainable development and community well-being. The program reflected the bank’s approach to balancing economic growth with social responsibility and environmental protection.
The regional development bank implemented a mangrove planting program involving 10,000 seedlings under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework. The initiative focused on coastal ecosystem restoration and climate resilience.
The activity took place in the coastal area of Mulyasari Hamlet, Anggasari Village, Sukasari Sub-district, Subang Regency, West Java Province. The location was selected due to its vulnerability to coastal abrasion and tidal flooding.
The mangrove planting was conducted on Thursday, 11 November 2025, in collaboration with the Nusantara Indah Environmental Foundation (YLNI), which served as the program’s environmental and community-based implementation partner.
Through the initiative, bank bjb worked alongside local communities, environmental organizations, and regional government institutions to support long-term coastal protection. The partnership aimed to strengthen ecosystem recovery while encouraging community participation in environmental stewardship.
Mangrove ecosystems play a critical role in protecting shorelines from erosion, improving water quality, and providing habitats for marine species. The planted mangroves are also expected to contribute to carbon absorption and support climate change mitigation efforts.
bank bjb emphasized that environmental preservation remains closely linked to improving the quality of life for coastal communities whose livelihoods depend on ecological balance. The program also sought to create potential economic opportunities through mangrove nurseries and related community-based activities.
The initiative received support from local authorities and stakeholders. A representative of the Subang Regency Environmental Agency expressed appreciation for the collaboration between bank bjb and YLNI in carrying out large-scale mangrove planting along the coast. YLNI representatives also welcomed the bank’s contribution to long-term coastal management efforts.
As part of the program, participants conducted a symbolic handover of mangrove seedlings followed by initial planting at the nursery site, marking the start of an ongoing coastal ecosystem restoration process.
bank bjb stated that it will continue to implement collaborative, inclusive, and sustainable CSR programs as an integral part of its business strategy, with the aim of delivering shared value for communities, the environment, and regional development. (*)
