China, Russia Set New Course for Energy Cooperation

Enviro News Asia, Beijing — China and Russia reaffirmed their commitment to expanding energy cooperation as the 7th China–Russia Energy Business Forum opened on Tuesday in Beijing. Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang addressed the ceremony and conveyed a congratulatory message from President Xi Jinping, underscoring the strategic direction set by both national leaders this year through multiple meetings and exchanges.

Ding, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, outlined how recent decisions from the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee have positioned China to advance high-standard opening-up and strengthen its role as a major energy power. He said these national strategies create new opportunities for deeper collaboration with Russia.

During his remarks, Ding emphasized China’s readiness to work with Russia to implement the consensus reached by President Xi and President Vladimir Putin. He presented three proposals to expand bilateral engagement in the energy sector. He called on both sides to reinforce cooperation across the entire industrial chain to safeguard the stability of cross-border energy routes and ensure steady trade flows.

Ding also urged both countries to boost cooperation in the energy transition by exploring new applications and unlocking opportunities in renewable energy and related fields. In addition, he encouraged stronger multilateral coordination to support the Global Governance Initiative in the energy sector and strengthen global energy market stability.

Russian representatives delivered remarks on behalf of their leadership during the ceremony. Igor Sechin, executive secretary of the Russian presidential commission on strategic development of the fuel and energy sector and environmental security and head of Rosneft, read a congratulatory letter from President Putin. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak also addressed attendees.

Following the opening session, Ding met with the Russian high-level delegation to discuss continued collaboration. The forum, attended by about 400 representatives from both nations, focused on enhancing strategic alignment and advancing the comprehensive China–Russia energy partnership. (*)
