Circular Economy in the Manufacturing Industry Strengthened Through AIGIS 2025 and GISCO

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – The Ministry of Industry has announced that the Annual Indonesia Green Industry Summit (AIGIS) 2025 will be held on August 20-22, 2025, at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC). This event aims to reinforce Indonesia’s commitment to driving industrial transformation toward more environmentally friendly and sustainable practices while enhancing the competitiveness of the national manufacturing sector in both domestic and global markets.

AIGIS 2025 will serve as a key platform for industry stakeholders, policymakers, and innovators to collaborate in decarbonizing the manufacturing sector. This year, AIGIS carries the theme “Driving Industrial Decarbonization through a Green Industry Ecosystem,” aligning with Indonesia’s net-zero emissions target by 2060 and the domestic industry’s commitment to achieving net-zero by 2050.

One of the major initiatives to be introduced at AIGIS 2025 is the establishment of the Green Industry Service Company (GISCO). GISCO will act as a financing instrument, providing easier access for industries, particularly the manufacturing sector, to adopt low-carbon technologies and improve energy efficiency.

Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized that GISCO will be a driving force behind domestic industrial decarbonization, especially for businesses facing investment challenges in implementing green technologies.

“GISCO serves as a solution for industries looking to transition to low-carbon technologies but still struggling with investment and funding constraints. With GISCO, we will accelerate industrial transformation towards more extensive and effective decarbonization, particularly for the manufacturing sector, which is the backbone of our domestic industry,” he stated in an official statement in Jakarta on Friday (March 28).

Circular Economy and the Challenge of Recycled Raw Materials for Domestic Industry
AIGIS 2025 will also highlight strategic issues related to the circular economy, which is key to the sustainability of Indonesia’s manufacturing industry. Currently, the primary challenge faced by the sector is the availability of recycled raw materials, which remains highly dependent on imports.

In many manufacturing sectors, such as automotive, textiles, plastics, and electronics, the use of recycled materials is still limited due to the lack of high-quality and standardized domestic supply. As a result, industries have to import recycled raw materials, which not only increases production costs but also poses a risk of dependency on global markets.

The Minister of Industry emphasized that AIGIS will serve as the main forum to discuss concrete solutions for building a stronger circular economy ecosystem in the country.

“AIGIS provides a platform for all of us to discuss real solutions to green industry supply chain challenges, particularly regarding recycled raw materials. With a stronger circular economy approach, we can reduce dependence on imports, strengthen the competitiveness of domestic industries, and foster a more sustainable domestic market,” he added.

With the support of GISCO and the implementation of stronger circular economy principles, Indonesia’s manufacturing sector is expected to reduce production costs by optimizing domestic recycled raw materials while increasing the competitiveness of local products in domestic and global markets with more environmentally friendly products.

Additionally, this initiative can help reduce dependence on imported recycled raw materials, which has been a major challenge for the industry, and support the achievement of net-zero emissions targets through energy efficiency and green technology adoption in the manufacturing sector.

To achieve these goals, the Ministry of Industry invites all stakeholders, including industry players, academics, and the general public, to participate in AIGIS 2025. Further information about the event can be accessed through the official website at https://aigis-moi.id/.

“We will also invite global industry players to expand their business in Indonesia to facilitate technology and knowledge sharing and, of course, to create new job opportunities,” concluded the Minister of Industry.
