Indonesia Accelerates Green Energy Transition and Economic Transformation at Japan Business Forum

Enviro News Asia, Tokyo — President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed Indonesia’s strong commitment to economic transformation, green energy transition, and strategic partnerships during his keynote speech at the Indonesia–Japan Business Forum in Tokyo.

The President outlined Indonesia’s ambitious plan to significantly expand renewable energy capacity, targeting 100 gigawatts of solar power within the next three years. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen national energy security amid global uncertainties, including geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

In addition to solar energy, the President highlighted Indonesia’s vast potential in geothermal energy and biofuels. He emphasized ongoing efforts to scale up biodiesel production, including increasing blending levels from 40 percent to 50 percent, as well as advancing ethanol-based fuels derived from agricultural commodities.

President Prabowo stressed the importance of maintaining rational economic cooperation in an increasingly complex global landscape. He reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to an open economic system and its long-standing “free and active” foreign policy, which prioritizes broad international partnerships.

He also underscored Indonesia’s strategic relationship with Japan, describing it as a key partnership that must continue to be strengthened amid shifting global dynamics.

On domestic reforms, the President reiterated his commitment to improving governance by promoting transparency, efficiency, and accountability in public administration, in line with public expectations.

Furthermore, he highlighted Indonesia’s shift toward downstream industrialization, aiming to move away from raw material exports and instead maximize added value to boost national prosperity.

Environmental protection was also a key focus, with the President calling for large-scale reforestation efforts and stronger forest conservation measures, recognizing their global importance in addressing climate change.

The address positioned Indonesia as an emerging global player ready to lead in green energy development, sustainable industry, and international economic cooperation. (*)
