Indonesia – Singapore to Enhance Cooperation on Energy Transition and Green Energy

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – Indonesia and Singapore are committed to strengthening cooperation in energy transition and green energy.

This commitment was conveyed by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, during a meeting with Chairman of Singtel and Temasek Board Members, Lee Theng Kiat, on Friday (July 18).

The visit aimed to introduce Temasek’s Board Members and discuss Temasek Holdings’ role as a global investment company, as well as to explore potential investment opportunities in Indonesia.

During the meeting, Minister Airlangga expressed appreciation for Temasek’s support for Indonesia’s economic development and encouraged the company to continue expanding its presence in the country.

“Temasek plays a vital role in Indonesian businesses, particularly through capital injection into several local startups. The government is ready to facilitate efforts to increase Temasek’s investments in the country,” said Minister Airlangga in his official statement.

In response, Chairman Lee expressed gratitude to the Indonesian Government for its support in enabling business operations in the country.

“Indonesia remains an important partner in the development of Temasek’s investment portfolio in Southeast Asia. Moving forward, Temasek will continue to grow its existing investments in Indonesia and explore further opportunities for collaboration,” stated Chairman Lee.

Temasek is a Singapore government-owned asset management company established in 1974.

As an investment firm, Temasek holds a diversified global portfolio across various sectors, including financial services, telecommunications, media, technology, transportation, energy, environment, and healthcare. In Indonesia, Temasek has made significant investments through subsidiaries such as ST Engineering, Singtel, and Sembcorp, which are involved in business networks including Siloam International Hospitals, Telkomsel, Matahari Putra Prima, DBS Bank, Olam International, and Sembcorp Industries and Koppel Corporation.

Minister Airlangga further emphasized the importance of enhancing green energy and energy transition cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore.

He voiced his support for Temasek’s commitment through Sembcorp Urban to begin development of green industrial zones in West Java, Tanjung Sauh, and Tembesi, Batam, starting in early 2025. (*)
