Enviro News Asia, Abu Dhabi — Global stakeholders in sustainability, energy, and climate action convened in Abu Dhabi during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, providing a platform for bilateral discussions on clean energy cooperation.
Indonesia’s Vice Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) from the National Mandate Party (PAN), Eddy Soeparno, attended the forum alongside Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan. Both met with the United Arab Emirates Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail Al Mazroui, to discuss the expansion of renewable energy investment in Indonesia.
During the meeting, Suhail Al Mazroui stated that the floating solar power plant project developed by Masdar at Cirata has progressed smoothly and now serves as a benchmark for the company’s renewable energy ventures in Indonesia. He added that Masdar plans to expand renewable energy development in the Cirata extension area as well as in Jatigede, expressing optimism for continued cooperation between Indonesia and the UAE.
Eddy Soeparno welcomed the UAE’s commitment to increasing renewable energy investment, emphasizing that the initiative aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s policy direction to expand Indonesia’s renewable energy mix. He noted that the strategy supports the national target of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060 or earlier.
Eddy also highlighted ongoing coordination between Indonesian stakeholders and Masdar to facilitate administrative and technical processes related to investment expansion. In his capacity as MPR leadership, he affirmed continued efforts to strengthen regulatory frameworks that support renewable energy and sustainability investment.
He informed the UAE minister that Indonesia is finalizing several key legislative instruments, including the New and Renewable Energy Bill, the Electricity Bill, revisions to the Oil and Gas Law, and the Climate Change Management Bill, which aims to enhance mitigation and adaptation measures against climate impacts.
Beyond floating solar projects, Eddy invited the UAE to broaden its investment portfolio in Indonesia’s renewable energy sector, including wind, geothermal, and hydropower. He also encouraged investment in large-scale electricity transmission infrastructure to connect renewable energy generation centers with high-demand regions, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening national energy security.
