Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta, through the Environmental Agency (DLH), completed a waste cleanup operation after a protest near the DPR/MPR building, Jalan Pemuda Senayan, and Jalan Pejompongan. The operation, conducted over two days from August 28 to 29, 2025, successfully collected 130 cubic meters of inorganic waste, equivalent to 28.63 tons.
Asep Kuswanto, Head of the Environmental Agency of DKI Jakarta, stated that the operation involved significant personnel and equipment deployment. “We deployed a total of 750 personnel from the Central, South, and West Jakarta Sub-Environmental Services and the Water Body Waste Management Unit, beginning work on Thursday,” he said in Jakarta on Friday, August 29.
The cleanup utilized 18 inorganic waste trucks, 30 mini dump trucks, and 26 mechanical street sweepers. Asep emphasized that these resources allowed for a faster and more efficient waste removal process.
However, he noted that the 130 cubic meters figure is provisional as cleanup efforts continue in other locations, including the vicinity of the Brimob Police Headquarters at Kwitang. “We will keep monitoring the situation and provide updates on the final waste volume once all cleaning is completed,” he added.
The protest on August 28 left a significant amount of organic and inorganic waste, mainly plastic bottles, food packaging, posters, and leaflets along the demonstration route. This swift cleanup operation aims to restore environmental conditions and maintain the cleanliness of the capital city.
Asep also expressed appreciation for the hard work of all personnel involved. “Swift action is crucial to enable residents’ activities and traffic flow in this strategic area to return to normal as soon as possible,” he concluded. (*)
