Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), continues to accelerate electricity provision in eastern Indonesia.
This acceleration is supported by budget allocation and infrastructure development, with the aim of promoting economic growth for local communities.
“The eastern region is our last mile to accelerate electricity availability,” said Dadan Kusdiana, Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, at the Indonesia Low-Carbon Energy Transition (MENTARI) Day held at the Ballroom of Artotel Suites Mangkuluhur, Jakarta, on Thursday (July 3, 2025).
The event is part of a collaboration between the Ministry of ESDM and the British Embassy in Jakarta.
The Indonesia Low-Carbon Energy Transition Program (MENTARI) is a four-year collaboration in the development of low-carbon energy in Indonesia between the Ministry of ESDM and the British Embassy in Jakarta.
The first phase of the program was carried out from 2020 to 2024, following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of ESDM and the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office on Low Carbon Energy Development (LCEP). The MoU has since been amended to extend the collaboration through 2027.
In the second phase of the MENTARI program, the goal is to build on the lessons learned and success stories from phase one, support Indonesia’s climate and energy targets, and foster stronger global partnerships that are responsive to social and environmental issues. (DKD)
According to the 2025–2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL), a total of 49,000 circuit kilometers (kms) of new transmission lines will be developed to distribute clean electricity from available energy sources.
“This will also serve as an enabler for energy security and a key requirement for achieving a comprehensive, inclusive, and sustainable energy transition,” said Dadan. (*)
