Enviro News Asia, Cianjur – Indonesia’s Ministry of Forestry, through the Sustainable Forest Management Agency (BPHL) Region VII Ciamis, has strengthened the implementation of Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) by conducting Monitoring, Evaluation, and Capacity Building (Monevbin) activities for end users of forest products in Cianjur Regency, West Java. The initiative forms part of the government’s efforts to ensure that forest products are utilized legally, transparently, accountably, and sustainably throughout the entire forest product supply chain.
The monitoring and evaluation program was carried out at a registered end-user business managed by Rosi Rosmiati in Cianjur. Officials from BPHL Region VII Ciamis assessed compliance with forest product administration requirements, verified the implementation of the timber legality system, identified operational challenges, and provided technical guidance to strengthen the capacity of business operators in meeting applicable forestry regulations.
The program also included guidance on the proper use of the Certificate of Legality for Round Timber Forest Products (SKSHHKB), which serves as the official document for the transportation and utilization of timber products. In addition, the agency updated end-user profile data as part of efforts to enhance a data-driven monitoring and supervisory system that supports more effective forestry governance.
Acting Head of BPHL Region VII Ciamis, Hendra, said that monitoring, evaluation, and capacity-building activities are essential instruments for ensuring that every stage of forest product utilization complies with regulatory requirements while promoting a culture of compliance among business operators.
“End users play a crucial role in the forest product supply chain. Therefore, monitoring, evaluation, and capacity building are intended not only to ensure compliance with forest product administration regulations but also to strengthen the understanding and capabilities of business operators in implementing good governance practices. Through continuous guidance, we seek to ensure that every forest product utilized has clear legal status, can be fully traced to its origin, and contributes to sustainable forest management,” Hendra said.
He added that the findings from the monitoring activities would provide valuable input for improving forestry policies, strengthening supervisory systems, and enhancing future capacity-building programs for forestry businesses.
Ajat Sudrajat, the manager of the monitored end-user business, welcomed the assistance provided by BPHL Region VII Ciamis, noting that the program had improved his understanding of forest product administration requirements and the importance of complying with legal documentation.
“We sincerely appreciate the guidance provided by BPHL Region VII Ciamis. This activity has given us a clearer understanding of forest product administration procedures and the proper use of legal documentation in accordance with existing regulations. Programs like this are highly beneficial for business operators in conducting their activities in an orderly, lawful, and responsible manner. We remain committed to complying with all applicable regulations as part of our contribution to sustainable forest management,” Ajat said.
Through the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Capacity Building program, BPHL Region VII Ciamis reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening supervision and guidance for forestry business operators across the sector.
The initiative is aligned with the policy direction of Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni to establish transparent, accountable, and sustainable forestry governance, safeguard Indonesia’s forest resources, enhance the competitiveness of Indonesian forest products, and generate long-term economic benefits for local communities.
