Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Environmental Control Agency (KLH/BPLH) officially appointed a new minister on 29 April 2026 in Jakarta, marking a leadership transition aimed at strengthening environmental governance and policy implementation.
Moh. Jumhur Hidayat assumed office from Hanif Faisol Nurofiq during a formal handover ceremony. The transition reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining continuity in environmental management and advancing national sustainability priorities.
In his first statement, Jumhur emphasized the importance of integrating environmental ethics into the education system. He called for the inclusion of environmental values at all levels of education to build long-term awareness and responsible behavior among future generations.
He stressed that economic growth and environmental protection must go hand in hand. According to him, investment and industrial development should continue, but they must comply with environmental standards to ensure sustainability and prevent ecological damage.
Hanif, who now serves as Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, acknowledged that several environmental programs remain unfinished and expressed confidence that the new leadership would accelerate progress. He also thanked the ministry’s staff for their support during his tenure.
Jumhur urged all personnel within KLH/BPLH to strengthen collaboration and contribute innovative ideas to ensure effective policy implementation. He highlighted the need for collective efforts aligned with presidential directives to address environmental challenges.
The leadership transition is expected to reinforce ongoing environmental programs and enhance Indonesia’s ability to respond to sustainability challenges through consistent and effective policies. (*)
