Partnering with the Indonesian Embassy in Copenhagen, Madiun City Forges Collaboration on Waste Management Technology

Enviro News Asia, Madiun – The Mayor of Madiun, Maidi, held an online discussion forum with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Copenhagen, Denmark, to discuss potential cooperation in waste management.

The forum took place at the Winongo Final Waste Disposal Site (TPA) on Friday (July 18). Opportunities for collaboration with Danish partners in environmentally friendly, technology-based waste management were discussed in depth.

Currently, Madiun is facing a waste management challenge, generating around 120 tons of waste daily—or approximately 3,200 tons per month—in a city with a population of 202,000.

During the event, the Mayor presented a series of innovative waste management programs already underway in Madiun, East Java Province. He also emphasized the importance of leveraging technology to tackle waste issues.

“We aim to develop a more modern and eco-friendly waste management system. Technology from Denmark could be the right solution for Madiun City,” he said, as conveyed in an official statement.

The Indonesian Embassy in Copenhagen has expressed its willingness to serve as a communication bridge between the Madiun City Government and potential partners in Denmark.

“We will assist in connecting the Madiun City Government with partners in Denmark, including follow-up actions related to waste processing technology,” said Rully Fachruddin Sukarno, a diplomat at the Indonesian Embassy in Copenhagen.

Following the discussion, the Mayor of Madiun plans to contact Indonesia’s Minister of Environment and Forestry to strengthen inter-agency coordination. (*)
