Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — Vice Minister of Forestry Rohmat Marzuki concluded the series of Public Consultation Forums for the Second Reconstruction of the National Forestry Plan (RKTN) 2011–2030 in Jakarta on Wednesday. The event, held under the theme “Collaboration for Optimizing Sustainable Forests,” gathered about 300 participants onsite and online, including representatives from ministries and agencies, provincial forestry offices, IPB University and UGM academics, development partners, NGOs, and the drafting team.
The Vice Minister emphasized that forestry planning serves as the core foundation of national forest governance. He stated that strong planning ensures policies are implemented with greater clarity, direction, and structural strength. He highlighted the strategic role of forests as ecological safeguards, living spaces for communities, and drivers of economic growth.
He also referred to the Minister of Forestry’s directive following recent floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. He noted that these events must serve as a reminder to conduct comprehensive evaluations of forest governance. He stressed that reconstructing the national-level forestry plan is central and strategic as a unified national reference.
The Vice Minister encouraged a collaborative and inclusive reconstruction process based on accurate data. He noted that contributions from government institutions, academics, partners, and civil society organizations would strengthen the development of an adaptive RKTN aligned with spatial dynamics, development needs, and future environmental challenges.
He expressed appreciation to participants, speakers, the drafting team, and organizers for their active involvement, and he hoped the discussions would refine the final draft before its adoption.
Before closing, he invited attendees to pray for communities affected by floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. He expressed hope that emergency response, rehabilitation, and infrastructure recovery would proceed smoothly through coordinated efforts across national and local governments and relevant stakeholders.
With the completion of the public consultation series, the reconstruction of the RKTN 2011–2030 moves closer to finalization as a macro-level guideline for the country’s future forestry planning. (*)
