Evacuation of Brazilian National, Hiking Route to Mount Rinjani Summit Temporarily Closed

Enviro News Asia, Lombok– The hiking route to the summit of Mount Rinjani via Pelawangan 4 Sembalun has been temporarily closed. The closure will remain in effect until the evacuation process of a 27-year-old Brazilian female hiker, JDSP, who fell during a climb on Mount Rinjani in West Nusa Tenggara Province, is completed.

“The temporary closure starts from June 24, 2025, and will continue until an unspecified date or until the evacuation process is fully completed,” said the Head of Mount Rinjani National Park Authority (TNGR), Yarman Wasur, in a statement on Tuesday (June 24, 2025).

Yarman explained that the temporary closure is intended to expedite the evacuation process and to ensure the safety of both visitors and the rescue team near the evacuation site.

“Visitors are still allowed to hike on all designated trails up to the Pelawangan 4 Sembalun area,” he said. Yarman urged all hikers to prioritize safety and security during their climbs.

Previously, Indonesia’s Minister of Forestry, Raja Juli Antoni, affirmed that the Indonesian government is taking the evacuation process seriously.

Raja Antoni said that on Tuesday morning, he had coordinated with the Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), the Governor of West Nusa Tenggara, and the Regional Police Chief regarding the next steps of the evacuation operation.

A total of four helicopters have been prepared to assist with the evacuation efforts.

“The government is fully committed to handling this case in the best possible way,” said Minister of Forestry Raja Antoni. (*)
