Ministry of Forestry Launches “Forest Move Club”

Enviro News Asia, Majalengka — The Ministry of Forestry launched the pilot project extracurricular program “Forest Move Club” at the State Vocational High School of Forestry (SMKKN) Kadipaten, Majalengka Regency, West Java, on Wednesday (September 3, 2025). The program, organized by the Human Resources Extension and Development Agency (BP2SDM) of the Ministry of Forestry, involved 106 grade XI students of SMKKN Kadipaten, who participated in two extracurricular options: the Morphosis Class (Nature Conservation), focusing on forest and water resource conservation, and the Venture Class (Creative Forestry Entrepreneurship), focusing on business innovation based on non-timber forest products, such as essential oil production and forage silage for livestock feed.

In its official statement, the Ministry of Forestry explained that the Forest Move Club was designed by the Center for the Development of the Young Generation of Forest Stewards (Pusgenri) as a platform to nurture young foresters who are excellent, environmentally conscious, and ready to contribute to the forestry sector. Through this program, students are not only equipped with conservation knowledge and technical skills but also leadership, teamwork, digital literacy, and green entrepreneurship.

This initiative aligns with Indonesia’s commitment to achieve Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU) Net Sink 2030, in which the forestry sector is expected to absorb more carbon emissions than it releases. The Forest Move Club falls within the framework of RBC (Reduction Based on Contribution) 2 and 3, emphasizing the real contributions of youth activities in supporting emission reduction and sustainable forest management.

Head of Pusgenri, Luckmi Purwandari, in her remarks, stated that this program is not just an extracurricular activity but also a major strategy to build a nurturing ecosystem for the young forestry generation. “FOLU Net Sink 2030 is Indonesia’s commitment to ensure that forests absorb more emissions than they release. Schools are the spearhead because a major transformation can only happen if our young generation is empowered from an early stage,” she said.

As a foundation, students received a motivational session from Dani Wahyu Munggoro with the theme “Discovering Your Inner Strength.” This session aimed to raise participants’ awareness of their potential and role as future forest stewards before they engage directly in conservation actions and green entrepreneurship.

Through the Forest Move Club, each participant will develop and implement a real action plan in the field, ranging from building green firebreaks, conserving water springs, producing essential oils, to creating silvopasture business models. The outcomes of these action plans will be documented in “Forest Move Club: Action Plans of the Young Generation of Forest Stewards.” With support from Pusgenri, BP2SDM Regional Office IV, and SMKKN Kadipaten teachers, the Forest Move Club is expected to become an innovative learning model that connects conservation, vocational education, and forestry entrepreneurship.

The program will run from September to December 2025, combining theoretical lessons, field practice at KHDTK Sawala Mandapa, and action plan mentoring. It is expected to become a replicable model for innovative extracurricular development at other forestry vocational schools and to produce a young forestry generation that is competitive, adaptive, and a key driver in achieving Indonesia’s FOLU Net Sink 2030.
