KLH Restores Cipinang River, Fostering Collective Awareness to Protect the Environment

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — The Ministry of Environment/Environmental Control Agency (KLH/BPLH), together with the Cipinang River Care Community and the Depok City Government, conducted the “Cipinang River Clean-Up Action – Segment I” in Sukatani Village, Depok, West Java. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve water quality and raise public awareness about the importance of keeping rivers clean.

Minister of Environment and Head of BPLH, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, emphasized that river clean-up activities are not merely physical actions but part of a broader behavioral change movement.

“A river is a source of life, not a dumping ground. Through this activity, we aim to reinforce the shared responsibility among the government, businesses, and the community,” he stated.

The event, held in the Bumi Cimanggis Indah (BCI) residential area, brought together hundreds of participants from various sectors — including KLH/BPLH, the Depok City Government, PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk, local communities, and residents — who worked hand in hand to collect waste and clean the riverbanks.

This activity followed a similar effort conducted on October 12, 2025, and serves as the implementation of Minister of Environment Decree No. 2530 of 2025 concerning the Establishment of the Cipinang River Care Community. The program strengthens collaboration between the government and the community in conserving river ecosystems.

Minister Hanif added that maintaining river cleanliness requires strong cross-sector collaboration.
“Environmental change cannot be achieved alone. Collaboration among the central government, local authorities, and communities is key to restoring rivers as healthy living spaces,” he stressed.

KLH/BPLH remains committed to extending the Cipinang River Clean-Up Program to cover all river segments. The initiative aims to improve water quality, control pollution, and enhance urban environmental resilience.

“If every region protects its rivers, the entire nation will become cleaner and healthier. True national change begins with local action,” Minister Hanif concluded. (*)
