Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – A total of 85 companies earned the PROPER Gold rating in the 2024 Environmental Award for the Company Performance Rating Program in Environmental Management (PROPER). The award ceremony, held at Sasono Langen Budoyo, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in Jakarta on February 24, 2025, recognized companies committed to environmental management and sustainable innovation.
Meanwhile, 16 companies received a Black rating, indicating poor environmental compliance.
Minister of Environment and Head of the Environmental Management Agency (BPLH), Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, emphasized that PROPER continues to evolve as a key instrument in controlling industrial environmental impact.
“PROPER has been one of the main instruments in managing industrial environmental impacts for over two decades. Its assessment criteria continue to develop with increasingly innovative approaches year after year,” said Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.
This year, the PROPER evaluation covered 4,495 companies, a 21.68% increase from the previous year’s 3,694 participants. Of these, 2,961 companies were deemed compliant with environmental regulations, while 1,329 companies were found non-compliant, and 205 companies were not announced due to legal enforcement actions or inactivity.
In addition to the Gold and Black ratings, the 2024 PROPER evaluation awarded 227 companies with a Green rating, 2,649 companies with a Blue rating, and 1,313 companies with a Red rating. A total of 164 companies had their ratings suspended due to ongoing legal proceedings, while 41 companies were not announced due to non-operation.
On the innovation front, PROPER 2024 recorded 1,762 eco-innovations, a 47% increase from the previous year’s 1,193 innovations. These innovations contributed to energy savings of 443.92 million GJ, a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 139.81 million tons of CO2 equivalent, as well as other achievements such as waste reduction and increased water efficiency.
Additionally, PROPER recognized 14 top company executives in the Green Leadership category, comprising six recipients of the Green Leadership Utama award and eight recipients of the Green Leadership Madya award. These awards were given to CEOs who demonstrated strong commitment to environmental management and collaborative initiatives in addressing social and environmental issues.
