Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut) has intensified integrated patrols in border areas to anticipate rising forest and land fire risks due to the predicted El Niño phenomenon.
The coordination meeting was held at PLBN Entikong on April 14, 2026, bringing together multiple agencies to strengthen early detection and rapid response mechanisms against potential fire outbreaks.
Head of Forest Fire Control for Kalimantan Region, Yudho Shekti Mustiko, emphasized that cross-sector collaboration is essential to prevent transboundary haze that could affect neighboring countries, including Malaysia.
He stated that integrated patrols and thematic outreach programs aim to enhance personnel readiness and community participation in fire prevention efforts.
The initiative involves local authorities, security forces, and environmental agencies, including forest management units and conservation offices, to ensure coordinated action in high-risk border areas.
Through this strengthened preparedness, the government aims to safeguard environmental sustainability and public health while maintaining regional stability amid increasing climate-related threats. (*)
