Pertamina NRE Supports IDXCarbon Campaign to Expand Public Participation in Carbon Markets

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — Pertamina New & Renewable Energy has strengthened its commitment to climate action by supporting the “AKU NET-ZERO HERO” campaign, a collaborative initiative launched alongside IDXCarbon, Bank Mandiri, and Jejakin at the Bursa Efek Indonesia.

The campaign aims to encourage public participation in low-carbon lifestyles by introducing accessible and measurable actions, particularly through carbon offset mechanisms. It also seeks to expand public literacy on carbon markets while fostering a more inclusive and credible ecosystem.

As a pioneer in carbon trading on IDXCarbon, Pertamina NRE has issued carbon credits sourced from renewable energy projects, including geothermal power plants in Lahendong Units 5 and 6, as well as a biogas power plant project in Sei Mangkei.

The biogas facility, located in the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone, utilizes palm oil mill effluent (POME) to generate electricity with a capacity of 2.4 megawatts. This process significantly reduces methane emissions while producing renewable energy, demonstrating the dual environmental and economic benefits of clean energy solutions.

Through the campaign, users of the Livin’ by Mandiri are introduced to carbon offsetting, enabling individuals to compensate for their carbon emissions by purchasing verified carbon credits linked to real emission-reduction projects.

Director of Human Resources and Business Support at Pertamina NRE, A.A.A. Indira Pratyaksa, emphasized that the initiative connects individual actions with tangible environmental impacts.

She noted that carbon offsetting allows individuals to directly support projects such as waste-to-energy conversion in Sei Mangkei, reflecting the essence of the energy transition where small actions contribute to sustainable environmental and social outcomes.

The campaign also aligns with Indonesia’s broader target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060 by mobilizing public engagement and private sector collaboration in climate solutions.

By integrating carbon offset features into everyday digital platforms, the initiative is expected to make climate action more practical, scalable, and impactful for the wider community. (*)
