Enviro News Asia, Central Kalimantan — PT Nusantara Raya Solusi (NRS), developer of the South Barito Kapuas carbon project, is working with the Madara Village Farmers Group and the Gerbang Barito Forest Management Unit (KPHL) in South Barito Regency to develop Dayak onion as part of efforts to strengthen local agricultural potential and improve the productivity of communities around the company’s operational area.
The partnership has been implemented through the cultivation and harvesting of Dayak onion on PT NRS’s concession area, which is jointly managed with the Madara Village Farmers Group. Under the partnership, the farmers’ group serves as the primary supplier, while the company provides support to promote the sustainable development of the commodity.
Riska Dwiyani, a representative of PT NRS’s Community Empowerment Division, said the collaboration reflects the company’s commitment to supporting community empowerment and economic independence through the utilization of local resources.
“The development of Dayak onion is expected to provide tangible economic benefits for the farmers’ group while creating opportunities for the growth of a village flagship commodity with added value and promising market potential,” she said.
The collaboration between PT NRS, the Madara Village Farmers Group and KPHL Gerbang Barito is expected to strengthen farmers’ capacity, maintain production continuity and encourage the development of a productive, inclusive and sustainable local agricultural supply chain.
Through the program, PT NRS reaffirmed its commitment to building partnerships with local communities and stakeholders to generate social, economic and environmental benefits around its operational areas.
