Enviro News Asia, Singapore — The Energy Market Authority (EMA) of Singapore and the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation on energy regulation and support the region’s transition toward low-carbon energy systems.
The MoU was signed during the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2025, providing a structured framework for collaboration and exchange of best practices in the regulation of gas and electricity markets. The agreement will also promote knowledge sharing, training programmes, and policy dialogues between the two regulators.
Under the partnership, EMA and AER will work closely to strengthen regulatory frameworks, improve market transparency, and foster the adoption of low-carbon technologies. The MoU further aims to deepen engagement at multilateral energy platforms to advance regional cooperation for a sustainable energy future.
Mr Puah Kok Keong, Chief Executive of EMA, highlighted the significance of the collaboration:
“Energy regulators are at the heart of the energy transition, and EMA is delighted to deepen cooperation with the AER on regulatory best practices and low-carbon technologies. This partnership builds on the strong bilateral ties between Singapore and Australia, marking 60 years of diplomatic relations.”
Mr Justin Oliver, Deputy Chair of AER, reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to regional energy collaboration:
“The AER is proud to further its partnership with Singapore’s Energy Market Authority and with regulators across ASEAN. Through sharing expertise and experiences, we can strengthen efforts to support energy security and the energy transition across the region.”
The collaboration between EMA and AER underscores both nations’ commitment to secure, sustainable, and efficient energy markets, aligning with regional efforts to accelerate the shift toward clean energy and carbon neutrality. (*)
