Singapore Promotes Citizen Action Through “Clean & Green Singapore 2025” Movement

Enviro News Asia, Singapore – The Singaporean government continues to strengthen its environmental commitment through the Clean & Green Singapore (CGS) 2025 movement, emphasizing the importance of community action in preserving the environment. Throughout 2025, more than 1,200 activities involving 400,000 participants — including schools, communities, NGOs, and private companies — have been organized. These include educational tours, sustainability-themed events, and volunteer programs designed to raise awareness of eco-friendly lifestyles and social responsibility toward nature.

One of this year’s key highlights is the launch of REHub, an intelligent recycling center developed by Cora Environment at Mee Toh School — the 2024 School Recycling League Gold Award winner. REHub features four separate compartments for paper, metal, plastic, and beverage cartons, each equipped with smart sensors that signal when the bins are nearly full. The initiative represents a strong collaboration between the education sector and private enterprises in promoting recycling habits among students and the wider community.

The ongoing movement also coincides with the International E-Waste Day (IEWD) 2025 celebration, held on October 12 at Bedok Town Square. The event, officiated by Senior Minister of State Janil Puthucheary, carried the theme “Step Up E-waste Recycling” and featured the launch of the latest version of the STEP-UP app by ALBA. The app helps users locate recycling points, join recycling campaigns, and learn about electronic waste management. Activities such as e-waste bin design competitions, photography contests, and battery recycling challenges added creative energy to the event.

Another major initiative, Race to Sustainability! 2025 at Gardens by the Bay, engaged more than 4,000 students in fun, experiential learning about sustainability. Through the SG60 Comic Trail by environmental activist Biogirl MJ, participants explored stories of solar-powered Supertrees, the OneMillionTrees movement, and hornbill conservation. The event also featured nine government agencies showcasing interactive installations that demonstrated Singapore’s collective commitment to building a greener nation.

An especially inspiring event, Eco Paddle, organized with Ola Beach Club in Sentosa and attended by Minister Grace Fu, brought together 90 participants from various corporations. Participants paddled kayaks while collecting marine litter around the southern waters of Sentosa, followed by an upcycling workshop that turned sea glass and driftwood into artistic accessories. The program demonstrated how creativity and adventure can align with meaningful environmental action.

The movement will culminate on November 1, 2025, with Clean & Green Singapore Day (CGS Day) at Our Tampines Hub, graced by Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong. The event will feature tree-planting activities, the presentation of the Environmental Services Star Awards and Community-In-Bloom Awards, and an exhibition showcasing Singapore’s environmental journey in celebration of SG60.

Through these collective efforts, Singapore reaffirms its vision to be not only an economically advanced nation but also one that is sustainable, resilient, and deeply rooted in green culture. (*)
