Enviro News Asia, Tanah Bumbu — A coordination meeting between Universitas Lambung Mangkurat and the Ministry of Forestry was held in Jakarta on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, to discuss mangrove rehabilitation initiatives in South Kalimantan.
The meeting addressed the proposed rehabilitation of degraded mangrove ecosystems in Sungai Dua, Tanah Bumbu Regency, an area that has experienced severe coastal abrasion affecting local livelihoods, environmental stability, and economic activities.
The discussion involved the Rector of Universitas Lambung Mangkurat and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Forestry, Dr. Ir. Mahfudz, M.P., alongside senior officials from both institutions and representatives of the Tanah Bumbu Regional Government.
Participants examined regulatory requirements related to the Business License for Forest Utilization (PBPH) in mangrove areas, as the proposed rehabilitation site is located within a conservation zone. The Tanah Bumbu local government has allocated funding through the regional budget (APBD) to support the program, pending formal approval and cross-sector coordination with the Ministry of Forestry.
Universitas Lambung Mangkurat committed to providing academic and technical support, including scientific studies, environmental assessments, and evidence-based recommendations to strengthen the planning and implementation of the rehabilitation program.
The collaboration aims to accelerate mangrove ecosystem recovery while enhancing coastal resilience and ensuring that rehabilitation efforts deliver long-term ecological and social benefits for coastal communities in Tanah Bumbu. (*)
