Enviro News Asia, Jakarta – The government handed over Forestry Ministry approvals for forestry sector carbon trading and officially launched the Indonesian Forestry Carbon Hub at the Manggala Wanabakti Building in Jakarta on Monday (7/6), as part of efforts to strengthen the governance of carbon economic values and improve market confidence in Indonesian carbon credits.
Presidential Special Envoy for Energy and Climate Hashim Djojohadikusumo said the utilization of carbon economic values through carbon trading is one of President Prabowo Subianto’s key concerns, as the international community is waiting for certainty on Indonesia’s policy direction in this sector.
“The handover of forestry sector carbon trading approvals and the planned launch of the Carbon Unit Registry System on July 9 marks an important momentum for eliminating investor and market doubts regarding carbon credits from Indonesia’s forestry sector,” Hashim said.
He added that the issuance of carbon trading certificates is the result of hard work, coordination, and cross-ministry and agency collaboration that deserves collective appreciation. “This is one of the government’s significant achievements at this time,” he said.
Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni said the handover of carbon certificate approvals marks an important first step in developing the forestry sector carbon trading ecosystem going forward.
“We also extend our appreciation for the cross-ministerial and agency support, as well as all related parties who have worked in synergy to realize sustainable carbon trading,” he said.
Raja Juli added that going forward, the integrity and quality of carbon in Indonesia must continue to be maintained and improved, including through support from the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM).
Indonesian Forest Entrepreneurs Association (APHI) Chairman Soewarso welcomed the issuance of international-scheme carbon certificates to four carbon project developers: the Bujang Raba Project under a social forestry scheme, PT Global Alam Lestari, PT Rimba Makmur Utama, and PT Mohairson Pawan Khatulistiwa, which are based on Forest Business Utilization Permits (PBPH). PT RMU and PT MPK are both APHI members that have been pioneering carbon trading consistently.
“The issuance of these approvals represents the implementation of multi-business forestry based on environmental services utilization, which is expected to drive forestry business diversification, increase economic contribution, strengthen community welfare, and maintain environmental quality,” Soewarso said.
He also affirmed that APHI will continue to push for the expansion of high-integrity, high-quality carbon credit development among its members, to contribute to economic development, improved community welfare, and the preservation of environmental quality.
The handover of the Forestry Minister’s approvals for forestry sector carbon trading follows the implementation of Presidential Regulation No. 110 of 2025 on the Implementation of Carbon Economic Value Instruments and National Greenhouse Gas Emission Control, as well as Forestry Ministerial Regulation No. 6 of 2026 on Carbon Trading Procedures through Greenhouse Gas Emission Offsets in the Forestry Sector.
