Admiral (Ret.) Dr. Ade Supandi Discusses Strait of Hormuz Maritime Security Strategy at UPN Veteran Jakarta

Enviro News Asia, Jakarta — Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta hosted a national seminar titled “The Strait of Hormuz Blockade: Global Crisis, Maritime Security, and Strategic Lessons for Indonesia” on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, featuring Admiral (Ret.) Dr. Ade Supandi, S.E., M.A.P., as one of the keynote speakers.

The seminar, organized by the International Relations Study Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), took place at the Diplomacy Laboratory of UPN Veteran Jakarta and brought together academics, students, and observers of international affairs to discuss the geopolitical implications of maritime security disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Rector of UPN Veteran Jakarta, Prof. Anter Venus, welcomed Admiral (Ret.) Dr. Ade Supandi and expressed appreciation for his willingness to share strategic perspectives related to maritime defense and national security.

According to Prof. Venus, discussions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz are highly relevant not only in academic discourse but also in relation to Indonesia’s national interests as a maritime nation.

“The issue of the Strait of Hormuz is not only important in academic studies, but is also directly related to Indonesia’s national interests,” Prof. Venus stated during the seminar.

He emphasized that geopolitical tensions in the Middle East could significantly affect global energy stability, international trade routes, and maritime security systems, including those linked to Indonesia’s economic and strategic interests.

Widely recognized as one of the world’s most strategic maritime chokepoints, the Strait of Hormuz plays a crucial role in global oil distribution and international shipping activities. Any disruption or blockade in the region could trigger broader economic and geopolitical consequences worldwide.

During the discussion, Admiral (Ret.) Dr. Ade Supandi provided practical insights into maritime defense strategy, regional security dynamics, and Indonesia’s strategic positioning amid global geopolitical uncertainty.

The seminar also served as a platform for participants to examine the broader implications of maritime security challenges on energy resilience, international diplomacy, maritime law, and global trade stability.

Through the event, UPN Veteran Jakarta reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening academic discussions on strategic global issues while enriching students’ understanding through practical perspectives from experienced national figures in defense and maritime affairs. (www.upnvj.ac.id)
