Enviro News Asia, Magelang — The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is intensifying efforts to develop a national electric vehicle ecosystem as part of a broader strategy to accelerate the transition toward clean energy and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
Bahlil Lahadalia stated that the government is focusing on building an integrated electric vehicle ecosystem, including strengthening domestic industries, expanding supporting infrastructure, and providing incentives to boost adoption.
He delivered the statement after accompanying Prabowo Subianto at the inauguration of an electric commercial vehicle assembly plant operated by PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk in Magelang on April 9, 2026.
The minister emphasized that accelerating the use of renewable energy, particularly through transportation electrification, is essential to lowering emissions and enhancing national energy independence. He added that the government is preparing various policy incentives and regulatory support to ensure effective implementation in the field.
President Prabowo reiterated that energy and food self-sufficiency are fundamental pillars for national sovereignty. He stressed that transitioning to electricity-based energy systems is a strategic step to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and carbon-intensive energy sources.
The government aims to ensure that the electric vehicle programme is implemented effectively and aligns with national targets, positioning it as a key component of Indonesia’s long-term clean energy and sustainability agenda. (*)
